Is your provider using SMPP v3.4?

Yes, 9 C-OCTETs is the "standard". See SMPP v3.4 specification, section 4.1.1.

I'm not sure about v3.3 or above 3.4 but Google should send you to the SMPP
Forum where the protocol specifications live.

Hmm... I would guess "no" but... violating standards... doesn't go down
well with me. ;-) Better speak to your provider.
