we all do prefer that such negotiations of patches would work over the devel@ mailing list, since we consider this as an "open" project. Hence contributions (if made willingly) should be open to everyone on the list too IMO.
The faster we get the patches in the list, the faster we can review, comment and suggest (or even re-code) improvements. ;)
