There's no evidence in the RFC it should be called a messiness..
Not sure I understand what you are saying, however I see evidence
in the multipart/related mime RFC (2387) that the Content-ID quoted
in the start parameter should be exactly identical to the one listed
for the relevant body part.
But you are right, the RFC author's lexicon does appear to extend
to such terms as I have employed above!
