Ok, never mind, it's just tuesday morning, and I haven't had my
coffee - I was actually reading the 1.4.0 release notes, and the MT
concatenation functionality, and got it completely wrong :P Thanks
for setting me straight :)

Aha, thanks Alex - I was looking in the 1.4.1 userguide, given the
feature was announced for the 1.4.1 release, but I've just found
that that configuration option is only described in CVS userguide
- should it be added to the 1.4.1 userguide?
no, this feature is only present in current CVS.

Hi,
it's configurable as it should be :)
Please try 'sms-combine-concatenated-mo = false' in your core group.

Now that I'm using a much more recent version of Kannel, I've
just encountered the reassembly of concatenated MOs in the
bearerbox feature - unfortunately, it seems this feature isn't
configurable, which is a problem since this breaks our http
application.
We've made a decision to do MO reassembly at the http
application, since we can then apply the same general rules to
MOs from another non-SMPP carrier connection, place a upper
bound on our application's column sizes, and capture message
parts which otherwise would not be able to be reassembled.
Can this feature be made configurable? If not, I'll have to come
up with a site-specific patch to disable it...
