I thing the main issue here is "user friendly" stuff. We need some construct for XML processing that is "beyond" coding it's own module. That's always the option for the one who knows how to do it. But for new users that simply want to dock their Kannel instance to the upstream SMSC that speaks a XML HTTP API, that's already too much of an effort to do (the coding).
