No. We boot qemu via grub.
I don't think is necessary to emulate the LinuxBIOS boot process
on non OLPC machines. You simply have to provide two versions of
kernel, one for emulator and high level software development and
the other for embedding in the real hardware.
We want to use the same kernel for both OLPC hardware and qemu.
Packaging multiple kernels just introduces a bunch of issues as I'm sure
or kernel package maintainers here at Red Hat will tell you.

In the limit, that won't really work. qemu is a 440bx chipset. There
will be differences, that may impact the kernel, that are reflected from
that fact.
