[devel] Suggestions: A good text editor for programming.

Hi all!

It occurs to me that this posting may be, er, off-topic but with so many linux
programmers here....

Can anybody suggest a good x-windows editor to use for programming? It has to
be free. I think it would be better if any responses came off-line.
