You probably need to add another line like this to you /etc/conf.modules
alias eth0 tulip.o
alias eth1 tulip.o
and reboot.
where tulip.o is the module for my SMC card. use the module for the SMC
ultra.
I refer you to the Ethernet HOW-TO which explains everything very well.
(You dont really need to reboot. you can force the kernel to re-read the
conf.modules again)
