If you are not already using Git you can find some details on its installation and use targeted particularly at kernel developers here: http://linux.yyz.us/git-howto.html In addition to Greg's suggestions you will also want to read through the Documentation/development-process/ files in the kernel source which will give you the info you would have got from the second Linux Foundation link. It'll give you a feel for how the process works and where to start. If you still need to ask general kernel or development participation questions it is worth asking at the kernelnewbies mailing list - [email protected] - as people here typically have more time for newcomers and you may get a quicker and more complete response.
