that the next good windows version after 2.16 is 2.24, there were

Judging from the broken notepad tab coloring in 2.24, and the extremely
slow 3.6.4, which comes without sub-pixel hinting by default, I doubt
than any of them uses Windows for more than a 10 minute test.
So it was chosen because it may be the least worst version for windows.
Well, it's not a problem *for me*. I'm compiling from source, and Geany
actually depends on 2.22, so replacing the number takes only a minute.
