Hi, I seemed to have caused a XO power glitch reboot at; storyjamunicef.googlepages.com
at which Henry suggested [after examining /var/logs] that you may wish to know how I did so. Reaching across the table for the charger plug in the XO that was being charging I not very smoothly attempted to remove the plug NOT BY twisting in a rotating manner BUT BY rolling my thumb past the plug grippy area between that and the side of the XO. Not a great technique especially considering that relaxing the pull of the plug seemed to result in the XO screen powering back up indicating the progress of a reboot. So I left the plub in the XO until after the reboot finished loading suger before removing it completely. BY then I'd simply grabbed the opposite side of the OX and pulled the plug in an adult as possible manner. Could sleep mode have been entered just as I was attempting to remove the plug? Perhaps the logs would have indicated that. Is there some compelling reason why y'all haven't built your own Power Management Unit ICs? Forget intel inside but like Dolby labs does with audio fidelity and recently Faroudja <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faroudja> does with video fidelity OLPC really should do for battery fidelity; letting users forget about the care and feeding of XO and any other licensed laptop battery and just USE IT with ups chip(s) managing the charging and giga-ohm floating while under mains current power. This was mentioned by Amory Lovins <http://www.rmi.org/> over a decade ago during a talk at which he pulled the plug on his IBMish looking laptop exclaiming, "built in UPS" or some such verbiage which may be true for expensive IBM gear BUT even insanely expensive Apple buries the notice of "leaving the MACtop on mains power severely shortens battery life". So now I have XO rather than another MAC battery :) But 12 hours of use - not yet. Also FYIs - Dwalt has a NANO™-phosphate lithium ion battery circular saw<http://www.dewalt.com/us/products/tool_detail.asp?productID=17782>. Surly the world needs CHIP-ups inside to keep those batteries properly topped up and not applying life shortening over charges. Rigid tools sells drill with free battery for life. Personaly, I'd prefer an heirloom XO over a heirloom electric drill. Thanks for listening and for the GREAT little XO lapTOP :) steveb
