http://dev.laptop.org/~bemasc/DOSEdit-1.xo Whereas DOSConsole is an activity that uses a dos console to demonstrate a framework for Wine-based activities, DOSEdit is an activity that uses DOS Edit.exe to demonstrate a scaffolding for DOS-based activities. DOSEdit is based on DOSEMU, a complete virtual DOS Machine. DOSEdit is built similarly to DOSConsole, with a similar set of caveats and compatibilities. DOSEMU does not provide any working cut-and-paste between DOS and X, and the state of localization is unclear. DOSEMU is a quite complete emulation of a 16-bit DOS machine, currently running FreeDOS. It uses native-execution where possible to maximize run speed, but does not compromise on accuracy. Thus, it is capable of running any 16-bit DOS program, including the original DOOM and Windows 3.1. Unfortunately, its performance appears to be limited by the overhead of filling a 1200x900 screen, so it is not as responsive as it could be. Also, sound does not appear to be working, but it should work. DOSEdit seems to be working perfectly. If you have a DOS-based program that you would like to run on an XO, or you miss AUTOEXEC.BAT, please take a look.
