The double-clicking problem sounds like http://dev.laptop.org/ticket/7876 , "Double clicking an activity in the home ring causes 2 instances to launch".
I get different results from different apps, e.g. click Memorize three times, get three icons for three working instances, no doubled menus, and two gray circles.
