Do any files under /library/users/ have the wrong ownership? (perhaps owned by a different laptop). If so, then the problem might well be fixed by this patch: http://dev.laptop.org/git?p=users/martin/ds-backup.git;a=commitdiff;h=8266a15e62600ac1a4fbe7a656472a67a640e35b Unfortunately that's needed on the client not the server, so 0.5 will not help.
