Regarding the issue where the XO-1 is brought to its knees and stops responding (or just responds incredibly slowly) due to being overloaded, 3 new possible options for solving this have cropped up in the last few weeks: 1. Linux 2.6.36 has a new OOM killer, which might perform better and kill things without letting the system become really unresponsive http://lwn.net/Articles/391222/ 2. As blogged about in various places, Linux has recently seen a lot of attention in the area of performing well under load. According to the blogs, the improvements are drastic. Some patches have gone into 2.6.37 and some will go into 2.6.38. 3. Some people think swap will help. F14 images now run UBIFS which supports writable mmap. Therefore we can put a swap file on the root filesystem and enable swap.
