Following are the reasons for pulse-audio not being audible ::
(i) [Pulse-audio] The pulseaudio default-sink needs to be unmuted once (therafter, the "un-muteness is persisted"). This is done through the folowing shell-script :: ################################################################################ pulseaudio_default_sink=`pactl stat | grep "Default Sink: " | sed s/"Default Sink: "//` pactl set-sink-mute $pulseaudio_default_sink 0 ################################################################################ I think that this should be a candidate for upstream OOB :-) (ii) [Pulse-audio, Alsa-audio] Also, by default, the gconf-value "/desktop/sugar/sound/volume" is set to "0" by default.
