Most embedded cards have a fullmac architecture (http://linuxwireless.org/en/developers/Documentation/Glossary#FullMAC) and therefore don't use mac80211/open80211s. But recently some vendors are starting to use mac80211 on the newer embedded chips. We have looked at wl1271 from TI and CW1200 from ST/Ericsson, which both use mac80211. They do not support mesh as of today, but the drivers could probably be modified to do so.
