I think i have load the driver "r8712u" correctly because when i plug in the usb wireless card and input "dmesg" ,the terminal shows as follow: [ 1143.460035] usb 3-1: new full-speed USB device number 2 using uhci_hcd [ 1143.892850] r8712u: module is from the staging directory, the quality is unknown, you have been warned. [ 1143.894901] r8712u: Staging version [ 1143.894930] r8712u: register rtl8712_netdev_ops to netdev_ops [ 1143.894934] r8712u: USB_SPEED_LOW with 4 endpoints [ 1143.897053] r8712u: Boot from EFUSE: Autoload OK [ 1146.648066] r8712u: CustomerID = 0x0000 [ 1146.648073] r8712u: MAC Address from efuse = 1c:7e:e5:ad:55:07 [ 1146.648077] r8712u: Loading firmware from "rtlwifi/rtl8712u.bin" [ 1146.648146] usbcore: registered new interface driver r8712u [ 1147.606058] r8712u: 1 RCR=0x153f00e [ 1147.609060] r8712u: 2 RCR=0x553f00e [ 1147.733121] IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlan0: link is not ready Also after I input "lsmod" I can see the module "r8712u" and my usb wireless card can connect to our lab's wireless router. Question: Yesterday I tried to find and buy other type of usb wireless card whose driver is "p54usb" or "zd1211rw",so I print the device list from this page http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Devices/USB .Unfortunately ,I searched almost electronic markets in local city and the store managers told me that the usb wireless cards on the list were outdated and stopped production. I think the device list is too old.In fact,I choose the D-Link DWL-G122 as the list told me that its driver is "p54usb". But when I get the card I found that its driver is "r8712u". So could you give me some suggestions about the other newer type of usb wireless cards whose driver is "p54usb" or "zd1211rw"?D-Link or TP-Link will be better. Another question: When I plug in the D-Link DWL-G122 in Ubuntu BT5 the "iw" commands are usable. After I input "iw list" it only shows "Wiphy phy0" , I think it's my build-in wireless card but not the usb one. However I can use the usb one to link to wireless router.Could you tell me why? By using "iw list" I can get the information "Supported interface modes:" include IBSS, managed, monitor(but no mesh). Does this mean that the wireless card do not support mesh? Thanks again.
