IMHO, most of the equipment setting up by bridge utilities are located at the edge. So the STP is default off. Beside, the 30 seconds forwarding delay as mentioned in the following doc: http://www.linuxfoundation.org/collaborate/workgroups/networking/bridge "One common mistake is that the default bridge forwarding delay setting is 30 seconds.
