Better to list out the version of compat-wireless used by your OpenWRT
router and also the version used by your Ubuntu distribution and do a
comparison.

If you are using OpenWRT trunk version, the compat-wireless version
should be compat-wireless-2012-12-06. So perhaps you can download the
latest version from [1]. It should work.

For Ubuntu setup, if I am not mistaken, you need to turn off the
network-manager before using mesh.
