Hi Ido,
We are currently putting a lot of development efforts and time in
OpenChange server development.
So far we have the following:
* preliminary but working RFR server implementation
* preliminary but working NSPI server implementation (Global
Catalog)
This lets Outlook setup an Exchange account using OpenChange server
only.
We are currently focusing our efforts on:
* mapistore implementation (abstraction storage layer) with a
sqlite3 test backend
* openchange dispatcher database for system/special folders
* emsmdb server implementation (so far only 4 calls roughly
implemented but mostly generic)
* openchange server mailbox provisioning scripts (python)
It's still in very preliminary stage but it's moving forward quickly.
The point is we are trying to provide a working POC-1 for April, 1st
2009 (no joke here ...) letting Outlook launch properly and display a
welcome message in Inbox (stored within a sqlite backend).
There is also a POC-2 roadmap, but it would be preliminary to detail it
until we reach POC-1 deadline and objectives.

OpenChange does have needs, some of them may be a bit premature but
still worthwhile mentioning in case of:
1. I think our NSPI server implementation doesn't work well with
Outlook 2007. I only have Outlook 2003, so very unlikely to test
it properly at the moment. It would really be nice to have some
feedback so we can fix the code.
2. We would really be glad if more people was joining the
mapistore backend architecture discussion and potentially start
to contribute some preliminary backends. At the moment I started
with a sqlite3 backend for convenience purpose, trying to
abstract details as much as I can, but I'd like to make sure
along development that the global mapistore architecture fits
with other kind of backends such as IMAP, CalDAV etc.
3. At some point in the future, when our python provisioning
scripts will be stabilized, it would be nice to have a pyGTK
admin interface to manage OpenChange server.
If you're interested in any of the above, I'd be glad to share some
thoughts on the current architecture, implementation or forthcoming
concepts. However do not forget we're talking about proof of concept
work, so it is likely the architecture to evolve over months.
Cheers,
Julien.
