I installed samba4 and now openchaneg via source and compiled from there. I will install the "development packages" now and see if it changes anything.

You therefore need to install libtevent and other dependencies through yum before you configure/compile openchange. If you installed samba4 with rpm, I assume devel packages also exist. FYI, OpenChange builds and run fine with latest Samba4 release.
