Short of updating the kernel, is there anything I can do on the Windows side to 
make this work?

Isn't it better to use a newer kernel that works? Fix for BSOD was
committed at Jan 19 (94bf169f); RNDIS networking with windows fix was
committed at Mar 16 (f63e59c8). Andy-tracking branch, of course.
