Well, I was a little too fast with my success story. I now got a version where I can configure.
But: * there is a script called "build" which conflicts with the directory "build" that configure wants to create * if I rename the build script, configure fails ... cut cut cut ... Note: moving to "origin/stable" which isn't a local branch If you want to create a new branch from this checkout, you may do so (now or later) by using -b with the checkout command again. Example: git checkout -b <new_branch_name> HEAD is now at 57f7a42...
