We really want to see the version in all cases (for instance when people paste output to bug reports), so the --version option does not offer much value IMO. The --version would also print a lot of other stuff so it seemed kind of broken. If we want to keep it for some reason, it should get fixed to only print the version and nothing else. Patches? :p Also, if we need the package version for bug reports etc, the user should instead do "dpkg -l dfu-util" (or the equivalent in non-Debian distros) to get the precise package version.
