backport from trunk (rev #6525):
- fixed bug in signal handler -> the extra proc must use the SIGUSR2 handler
from the core, otherwise it will die when core will try to collect pkg mem
stats (via SIGUSR2). NOTE the SIGUSR2 terminates the proc if not handled.
