Did you try to reboot after updating the system?
libffi issue can only be due to profile changes, care to remove the
symlink you created, run env-update and reboot?

Sure I rebooted to see if that would fix the problem, but it did not. I
just tried again by removing the symlink, executing env-update and a
reboot.
The same problem as I had yesterday evening. GDM shows me the non
gnome-shell (Fallback) login screen. No upper bar and no window borders
when logged in.
If nobody can confirm this problem here that also uses sabayon.org and
limbo repos, then just ignore it. It could be because of some manually
source installations from my side that is giving me this effect.
