on the road to a pure x86_64 going tru' PAE enabled kernels i spotted a
better candidate:

lwn.net - The x32 system call ABI <https://lwn.net/Articles/456731/>

hummm ... a dream becoming true?

this ABI can be used also for pure x86 processors? non PAE processors? old
32 ABI compiled programs need a recompilation or not? i mean, compiled for
32 bit ABI? can replace PAE? ... i think not ... look like a useful
addition not replacement for PAE because PAE is needed to access more than
4 GiB anyway ...

if true then if we have old boards with old processors where 4 GiB of
installed RAM is an physical limit, will use and see only this extended x32
ABI ( but PAE enabled kernels can run on old boards like that? ) if we have
new systems with more RAM we can use real x86_64 programs!
