ouch ... a little scary for a linux newbie ... almost all kde wiped out!
from my experience this is not fatal and will not ruin even a fresh kde
install ... all is needed is to calm down, put in a list all that deleted
entropy packages and reinstall all of it ... the do again a smpsync

if is still some « cannot convert COUNTER » the you need to force delete
again offending packages, smpsync and reinstall again then shout out a
final spmsync and now entropy + portage is in harmony again ... from my
experience at this third spmsync all « cannot convert COUNTER » errors is
gone for sure ...

i encountered this error from time to time ... but because i played too
much with portage custom installs and synced entropy with spmsync in
repeated rounds when i stomp over « cannot convert COUNTER » in each cases
it was too late for a condensed and comprehensible error report shorter
that dr. watson detective stories ...

and, ofcourse, me too lazy to try a case reduction hunting session ...

but i never encountered so many « cannot convert COUNTER » errors for only
one recompiled package, even a big one like gimp, using portage! this is
very unusual and i can guess is happening only if gimp portage
recompilation pull in a massive portage recompilation of many dependent
gimp libraries ....

   1. >>  ++ (1/3) >>> Adding media-gfx/gimp-2.6.11-r6
   2. >>  ++ (2/3) >>> Adding media-libs/babl-0.1.6
   3. >>  ++ (3/3) >>> Adding media-libs/gegl-0.1.8

is really only two libraries recompiled in portage?

like Google ... or IBM

your little help to free software development does not bring
to you any money but can help you use it more efficiently,
so you can make more money ... meanwhile, other users of
that little free software program, using your contribution
can make more money! nobody loses anything, all those who know
how to use a free software program, in continuous evolution, wins
