The new code is more aggressive but it is supposed to wait for at most 10 seconds if the root device doesn't show up immediately. Have you tried adding "rootwait" to the command line? (instead of scandelay=n).
Also, can you remove the "quiet" argument from the cmdline (as well as scandelay=n) and paste here a screenshot of the boot messages? I may be able to improve the code. -- Fabio Erculiani
