Despite some packages are missing support to libav i'd avoid to switch back
to ffmpeg. Libav is much way cleaner and stable than ffmpeg.

We have very good contacts with libav upstream, and this was already
helpful when we had issues with other packages failing against it (that now
i can't even recall). Differently i don't see we would have real benefits
from the switch aside the missing software you mentioned, but i imagine it
would give more headaches (as you pointed out, ffmpeg is even breaking
compatibility between 3.x versions..).

We are one of the few distributions (actually i'm not aware of others) that
support libav out of the box, and i'm proud of it. What i would propose
instead is trying to push upstream projects that misses libav support
and/or helping libav providing support to them.

That being said, if majority of the staff agree and wants the transition, i
would be ok with it, despite not liking it :o)
