Dziugas,

Please let us know share your experience with that book. If it is indeed worth it, then we shall add the link (although I have to say that I find the OMA specs more than sufficient reading).

On MMBox, I know of at least one vendor who appears to be testing this. The other motivation was that, well, it was there, it could be done pretty easily, so why not?! Plus we felt we should have Mbuni up to the 1.2 spec before first release. Let the rest catch up :)
Of course the more interesting one is MM7, and that is currently in the works.

Hi Paul,

although I haven't already tested it, first of all, congratulations
being one of the first implementing the MMBox functionality.

I did the quick code review in CVS on that as well as reviewed 3GPP
specs on that but however I'd like to hear your motivation on pushing
MMBox.

Firstly, at least on my "quite new" Nokia 6230 I can't see the option
which would say MMSC to store my incoming or outgoing MM to the MMBox.
Secondly, I also couldn't find any MMBox client (both mobile user
agent as well as external one). So as I understand, this will be the
feature letting mobile phones to store and exchange MM with MMSC and
VASP will be able to provide some kind of for example Web interface
for MM similar to webmail. However, I think it will take time to reach
the wider market.

I'd interesting to get other objections.

Btw, I ordered (it's still on the way) one book on Mobile messaging
and it covers MMS from 1.1 to 1.3. Of course I don't recomend anybody
to buy it, but however it might be useful to put it in mbuni.org
resources place:

The MMS v1.2 spec adds a specification for an 'mmbox'. This is
persistent storage on the network side. The idea is that, like email,
users might want to keep copies of messages (received, sent, drafts)
somewhere. Since the phone has limited space, the server should provide
this functionality.

MMbox functionality is provided for through small extensions to the
standard MMS transactions:
- When a user sends a message, the phone (or other MMS client) can
indicate that the server should save a copy of the message in the
users' MMbox. The same can be done for message forwarding.
- New transactions are also defined: User can query the MMbox for
messages matching certain criteria. (For each message 'flags' can be
defined -- like keywords, and a message state, which is one of New,
Draft, Sent, Forwarded). User can also upload a message to the MMBox

This is now implemented and on CVS. Please test (those who can) and
let me know if there are any issues.

Cheers

Paul.
