Thanks for your hint, it wasn't exactly "concatenation = 1", but I missed setting "max-messages" in my sendsms-user config block. As soon as I changed my Mbuni sendsms-user to: group = sendsms-user username = mbuni password = <foobar> concatenation = 1 max-messages = 10 ... the notifications with long hosts and the non-optimized one arrived!
