I note for the record that said permission was not given casually.
In fact, I have considered this feature dodgy and likely to be
failure-prone since I first tripped over it in the code early last
year. I am not even a *bit* surprised that it spawned security
problems, and I had a mental flag set to rip it out myself as soon as
I could find a decent excuse.
