Praveen,

gcc version 4.1.1 should work. Most of the time when I'm not able to get a 
kernel to compile, it's due a .config conflict. Meaning, I didn't enabled or 
disabled something in the kernel. If this isn't the case for you, please post 
the error messages you are seeing.
