This post seems to be part of a larger thread and confirms DTS and DTB files are a mess and we seem to be stepping into it: http://lists.infradead.org/pipermail/linux-arm-kernel/2015-May/345977.html The point about being able to reverse the process and get the source from the blob is interesting.
