For a previously working setup, mouse protocol auto no longer succeeds
in configuring the mouse, however it appears not to fail either, leaving
the server up with a non-working mouse pointer. I do not have
'AllowMouseOpenFail' set.

This is a serial Logitech Trackman Marble FX. If I specify protocol
'mouseman' the device works ok. I previously used the 'mouseman'
protocol before 'auto' was made to work (a year or two ago.)

The working log info for the device is:

(**) Option "Protocol" "mouseman"
(**) Mouse0: Protocol: "mouseman"
(**) Option "CorePointer"
(**) Mouse0: Core Pointer
(**) Option "Device" "/dev/mouse"
(**) Option "BaudRate" "1200"
(**) Option "StopBits" "1"
(**) Option "DataBits" "7"
(**) Option "Parity" "None"
(**) Option "Vmin" "1"
(**) Option "Vtime" "0"
(**) Option "FlowControl" "None"
(**) Mouse0: Emulate3Buttons, Emulate3Timeout: 50
(==) Mouse0: Buttons: 3
(**) Mouse0: BaudRate: 1200
