Hi!

Here are results of my testing for version 1.8.6 of this driver
with XFree86 4.2.0 running on FreeBSD 4.7-STABLE.

I use S3 Trio3D video card and Samsung SyncMaster 510s monitor.
Monitor works using HorizSync 30.0 - 61.85, VertRefresh  50.0 - 120.0.
Video card's maximum pixel frequency is 80Mhz.

I should note that version 1.8.6 is much better than supplied
with 4.2.0 release of XFree86.

1. Good news: many doublescan modelines work perfectly
   in 8bpp, 15bpp and 16bpp modes:

  # vert 120.00Hz, horiz 60.00kHz
  Modeline  "288x240"    22.20 288 296 304 370 240 241 242 250 doublescan

  # vert 118.66Hz, horiz 60.99kHz
  Modeline  "320x200"    25.86 320 336 384 424 200 204 205 257 doublescan

  # vert 120.00Hz, horiz 60.00kHz
  Modeline  "320x240"    24.00 320 324 340 400 240 241 242 250 doublescan

  # vert 119.96Hz, horiz 60.22kHz
  Modeline  "352x240"    27.34 352 360 378 454 240 241 242 251 doublescan

  # vert 103.77Hz, horiz 61.84hHz
  Modeline  "384x288"    30.18 384 388 396 488 288 288 289 298 doublescan

I use a number of non-doublescan modes also.
There are here just for completeness:

  # vert 120.59Hz, horiz 54.63kHz
  Modeline "512x384"     35.18 512 528 544 644 384 432 433 453

  Modeline   "800x600"    59.78 800 804 868 1008 600 601 602 622

  # vert 77.40Hz, horiz 60.99kHz
  Modeline  "1024x768"   78.80 1024 1028 1124 1296 768 769 772 792

  # vert 120.00Hz (interlaced), horiz 55.50kHz
  Modeline  "1152x864"  79.92 1152 1154 1284 1440 864 865 866 925 -hsync -vsync
interlace

  # vert 95.81Hz (interlaced), horiz 58.07kHz
  Modeline  "1280x1024" 80.00 1280 1296 1512 1568 1024 1025 1037 1065 interlace

  DGA 2.0 works.

2. Not so good news:

- a cursor is still half-size in doublescan modes
  unless Option "swcursor" "on" is used;
- blue window titles sometimes magically became green
  in the 24bpp modes only and only in modes 512x384 and less;
  I use AfterStep window manager with nearly default settings.
- switching between video modes and even between text/graphics modes
  take 5-8 second often, meantime screen flashes many times;
  this machine is dual-boot (FreeBSD/Win98SE) and Win98 does not
  exhibit this problem. I ran XFree86 3.3.5 for long time ,
  it never had this problem too. Most annoying thing.
  Server log is available on request.

3. Bad news:
- XVideo still not supported.
- doublescan modes do not work in 24bpp modes: only upper half of
  screen is painted, the bottom half is black while hardware cursor
  runs accross full screen.
- there is much of flicker in 24bpp modes 1152x864 and 1024x768
  in the left side of screen when picture is changing;
  hardware mouse cursor clicks 15-20 pixels left of its image in these modes
  but this mouse problem disappears with software cursor.

Again, big thanks to Kevin Brosius for doublescan modes!
