Hello, ...

I am trying to enable the scaling functionality of the chipset i am
currently writing a driver for. I wish it to be possible to specify a
fixed size monitor (like an LCD screen) and then still allow the
possibility of using other video modes and up (or down) scale them to
the size of the fixed size monitor. Also it would be nice to have
mirroring, where the second head mirrors the primary head, but maybe
with another resolution, also using scaling here.

Ok, now to my questions, how can i best specify this in the XF86Config
file ? I simply used a fixedwidth/fixedheight option in the driver
section, but this does not work best, since i need to have the timings
for the fixed size, but the pres-scale size for the framebuffer. Also i
believe this would be best specified in the monitor section and not in
the driver section of the XF86Config file.

Is there already a way of doing this, or maybe does a driver already do
this (i think the closed source matrox ones does it, and mirroring, and
windows zooming, but maybe not trough the XF86Config file). If not, it
would be a nice feature for future XF5.

BTW, how is it possible that SDL does switch to a mode not supported by
my monitor, even if it is not in my XF86Config file ? This happen on my
still incomplete driver, put also with the vesa driver.

Friendly,

Sven Luther
