I'd like to know what problems are caused by autodetecting the user's locale, and having xterm use the user's encoding by default. I'd also like to know what good technical reasons the existing defaults are superior for. Other than taking blind potshots at Red Hat Linux, and what appears to be your disapproval of UTF-8, do you have any valid technical comment to contribute as a response to my question perhaps?
