XFree86 releases that are way past code freezes, etc. and in bugfix only stage definitely do not sit and wait for someone to randomly implement support for a currently unsupported chipset. Any hardware which is not supported simply remains unsupported until after-the-fact of someone writing support for it, and contributing their code.
