On the other hand, it still irks me to yet again see XFree86 targetted for a "problem" it does not cause, even in theory. That said, I have committed to our CVS's HEAD branch changes to remove PROT_WRITE from many of the X server's mmap()'s, further entrenching the idea that the kernel has no reason to nix them. I expect this issue to come up again, but I'm not looking forward to it. In the meantime, for the sake of your students, please lighten up. The world is not as evil a place as you make it out to be.
