why? there is an OS specific bug in linker where it automatically
add -L /usr/lib in the link path, BEFORE any of your -L path options...
this has been reported and hope they will fix it in the next release.

now back again to the question for the expat/xml experts, any
problems commenting out XML_SetDoctypeDeclHandler? this function
is apparently not in the early versions of expat.
While porting other xml tools with GNU configure, I've seen things like
checking for XML_SetDoctypeDeclHandler()... no
and the code deals with the case by ifdef out that function.

Before I have an answer, I will just disable the OS version
of expat and force to link with xfree86 version.
