you will find a new version of fonttosfnt. Unlike previous versions,
this version builds with an unadulterated copy of FreeType 2.1.4 (but
nothing earlier).
Unlike previous versions, it recodes non-Unicode bitmap fonts to
Unicode, which should make them usable with fontconfig. I have not
tried this myself, though, and would be very curious to hear from you
if you do.
Due to a bug still present in FreeType, it will only work with PCF
fonts, not with BDF. Due to a different bug in FreeType, it will be
*very* slow with compressed PCF fonts.
