The best nedit can do. Interistingly I came across the Xfce plugin clipman that looks like a clone of klipper. http://goodies.xfce.org/projects/panel-plugins/xfce4-clipman-plugin So, I expected that it would cause the very same problem, especially since it has exactly the same 'Prevent empty clipboard' option. But to my surprise (despite the wrong name) it seems to work correctly. At least, I couldn't trigger any failure and I tried hard - it doesn't steal the selection while preventing it from becoming empty (impossible according to he Klipper folks). I didn't have the time to figure out why, though. Perhaps it is because clipman is using gtk clipboard. But also the source code doesn't look at all like being copied from klipper... Anyway, IMO it's indication that it isn't nedit that is wrong. Since it is an Xfce plugin it works only from the Xfce panel in case someone likes to test it.
