Summary: copy/paste into find/replace dialog box
Initial Comment:
Built on: Linux, 386, Intel C++
Built at: Oct 25 2007, 08:56:17
With Motif: 2.2.3 [@(#)Motif Version 2.2.4]
Running Motif: 2.2 [unknown]
Server: The X.Org Foundation 60802000
Visual: 24-bit TrueColor (ID 0x21, Default)
Locale: en_US.UTF-8
-------------------------
1) No problem copy/paste text in the nedit main window.
2) On some machines can't copy/paste text onto find/replace dialog box
(sometimes this is useful). Except this, nedit works fine/
3) It seems that this failure in copying/pasting has something to do with the
some libraries or packages not installed in the system.
4) But my question is in nedit what's the difference between copying/pasting
texts onto main window and onto a dialog box? Can we make these copying/pasting
behavior consistent?
Thx.

There is no relation between pasting in the main window vs. a Motif text
widget. Completely different code - one is inside by Nedit, the other is
inside Motif. Can you cut and paste *within* the text widget at all? What
happens if you rebuild?

No, if I try to paste the text onto the dialog box, Shift-Insert doesn't
work, either. As long as staying in the main window, I can copy and paste
without any problem no matter I use ^V or the middle mouse.

OK, so it's in the clipbaord. Does it paste if you use Shift-Insert? Can
the text field cut and paste into itself?

I used xclipboard to check if the selected text was copied to clipboard-it
was there.

my system:
AMD Opteron(tm) Processor 250
SuSE Linux 9.2 (x86-64)
---------------------------------------
My nedit was statically build and the copying/pasting into dialog box
worked fine before an system crash of this machine caused by a disk
problem.
After the bad disk was removed and the operation system (still SuSE Linux
9.2 x86-64) was re-installed I suddenly found the copy/pasting into
find/replace dialog didn't work (not matter I used middle mouse or ^C then
Shift-Insert or ^V).
I know the system is different than before (some libraries was not
installed, e.g. libXp.so.6), but I wonder why copying/pasting still works
in the main window?
I think I am not the first one find this problem, there was also a bug
report in nedit-Bugs-1587902.
Thx.

#2 - need a little more detail here on precisely what you did, what the
machine/OS was, what happened, and what you expected to happen.
I can tell you can cut and paste into a dialog box should work, I do it
all the time. The dialogs natively support quick paste of the selection
(middle mouse) and paste of the clipboard (Shift-Insert or ^V). However,
you don't really need it too much because of "Search>Find Selection"
