One of the requirements for our participation in the Google Summer of Code is to have an idea page. I started one at:
http://twiki.org/cgi-bin/view/Wikilearn/NeditGSoCIdeaPage This is a page where prospective student participants can find ideas that they might be interested in implementing for NEdit. (Of course, they can also propose their own ideas.) (Just to keep some perspective on the process, our first hurdle is to have Google approve us as a mentoring organization, with, iiuc, a number of spots they are willing to sponsor for us. Then we must get students to apply with proposals. If there are more student proposals than slots, we will have to select which to approve. Further down the road, we will eventually have to make evaluations of the student's performance and his code, partially to determine whether he gets paid, and partially as an evaluation that others (Google?) might use in evaluating him for future employment or whatever.) The page is very rough, I just wanted to get something up to get started. I did try to glean the ideas from those presented recently on the mail list, but didn't make much, if any, attempt to clean them up. And, I might have missed some. As I say on the page, if someone wants to host the page at nedit.org, that would be fine--the text would have to be reformatted as what is there now is on a wiki and thus uses TWiki markup. (I guess one way to move the page is to simply copy and paste from a "View source" of the page, although we may want to wait until the page is in a better condition before doing that--I/m not sure how easy it would be to modify the page at that point--basic text modifications on the WikiLearn page are easy.)
