I think that an index should be better than a string.
To be complete on the matter of qiraat, It should be
known that if we choose to address it we must address
the riwayat problem. In fact, for each qiraa there 2
riwayat which differ in terms of recitation and text.
The most known riwaya is that of Hafs
(حفص) which is a riwaya of the Asim
( عاصم ) qiraa, the other
riwaya is that of Shuba ( شعبة
). So, I think the proper term to use here here should
be the riwaya and not the qiraa.
