We on the iX side are looking at a serious proposal to sponsor some engineers to completely overhaul the current dedup implementation on ZFS. If successful, this work will include a prototype of a new log-based dedup engine that would include enhancements in many other key areas, including ZAP shrinking, Dedup Quotas, Pruning and Preloading, etc.
