Speaking of books, Apress (www.apress.com) have just released "Learning to Program in C on the Mac" and "Learning to Program in Objective C on the Mac" and soon to be released "Learning to program in Cocoa on the Mac".

All Apress's titles are available in electronic format as well as print editions which is a huge help.

Also, pragmatic Programmers (www.pragprog.com) are about to release:

Cocoa Programming: A Quick-Start Guide for Developers
Coding in Objective-C 2.0
Core Data: Apple's API for Persisting Data under Mac OS X
and RubyCocoa: Bringing Some Ruby Love to OS X Programming

All of pragmatic programmers titles are also available in electronic format.

I hope this helps any aspiring Mac developers out there.

Cheers,

Mitch

Subject: cross-platform library found

Hello all.
I've located a library that claims to work on osx, linux, and windows.
It supposedly can be used to produce sound on all three platforms.
It's available from
http://www.hookatooka.com/wpc/
and is described in a book called writing portable code, A pdf of which is available for purchase ($20.95) from no starch press
http://www.nostarch.com
with this particular book on the page:
http://www.nostarch.com/wpc.htm
And the list of all their books that have pdf versions at:
http://www.nostarch.com/pdf_sale.htm
There's some pretty good books there (from what it looks like anyway) I've purchased the write portable code book, and lan to buy a few more. there's even one there for the mac, so if you folks are into linux, mindstorm legos (the osx version of the software doesn't work with voiceover) linux, bsd, perl, ruby, php, or any number of other things, you really should check out this page. You can buy the book, the pdf file, or both (obviously, we don't need the book, so this is fantastic for us) Hoe this helps, and please do let me know if anyone buys a book, and how good it was, I'm interested in finding out if they're all as well done as the write portable code book.

The sal library takes some doing to get it compiled (I've not done this task yet myself, as I'm still browsing the book) but when I do, I'll post again about how easy/difficult it was to get working. Judging from the instructions though, it's not a trivial task, but not having tried it, I could be wrong on that count.

Anyway, there it is, enjoy.
